The publication gives a brief description of the background for the Danish local gov-ernment reform. Additionally the publication contains an overview of the new map of Denmark with 98 municipalities and of the distribution of tasks in the public sector when the reform comes into force on 1 January 2007. Finally the publication accounts for the consequences of the local government reform concerning public finances and local democracy.
